If 2022 was a little too stressful for your liking, seeking out ways to de-stress is a great resolution for 2023.
Not all methods of dealing with stress are created equal, however. Let’s take a look at some of the most effective ways to reduce stress in the New Year.
1. Hydrotherapy
The healing power of heated water and jet massage can’t be beaten. This powerhouse partnership, especially when used regularly, has been shown to reduce stress and tension significantly. Time in the hot tub not only relaxes your muscles, but it also helps boost your body’s endorphin production.
These chemicals produce feelings of wellbeing while aiding in the relief of tension and stress. Making 20-minute hot tub dips part of your daily routine in 2023 is a great way to kick back and relax while investing in your health.
2. Good Nutrition
So often, our New Year’s resolutions revolve around dieting and losing weight. In 2023, why not make it about eating well for your health? Counting calories or following a diet that severely limits what you can eat can add stress to your life.
So, rather than focusing on the latest fad diet, concentrate on making healthy choices. Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole-grain carbs and lean protein has been found to not only improve your physical health, but also reduce your stress levels.
3. Regular Exercise
Exercise is a great way to lower stress levels and improve your health — but only if you’re doing activities you actually enjoy. In 2023, make getting fit fun. When you enjoy your workouts, you’re more apt to stick with it. So whether you choose to walk, play tennis, swim or lift weights, tailor your exercise to your life.
Getting in 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity three to four times a week can have a huge impact on your physical and mental health.
4. Enough Sleep
It’s hard to combat stress when you’re feeling tired and cranky. Too often, adults put sleep low on their priority lists. So, in 2023, it’s time to commit to getting the seven to nine hours of Zzzzs most adults require.
It’s during this time that our bodies rest and recover and our brains recharge. When we’re well rested, we not only feel energized, we can function at our best.
5. Less Screen Time
It can be hard to tear yourself away from the screen. Work and entertainment alike almost always seem to revolve around some form of screened-technology. While you likely can’t do much about your screen time at work, you can limit it during your downtime, because when we unplug, our body is better able to de-stress.
So, in 2023, why not find new ways to have fun and relax? Read a book, play board games with the family or put on some of your favourite tunes and have a dance party with the kids.
That doesn’t mean you can’t watch Netflix or play games on your tablet, but reducing your screen time by even one hour a day can have a huge impact on your health.
